Did you have to pay for chilbirth/parenting classes?

I guess I wrongly assumed it was included since I'm taking them through my doctors office. For couples its $120 at my office. Can I take it somewhere else for free?Did you have to pay for chilbirth/parenting classes?
I am on medicaid and the fee was $6. I paid for a class 3 years ago but my daughter was born before I ever began. So i had a credit with them this time.

My Dr's office told me about them but they are sponsored by the hospital. Call and ask to speak with someone in their education Dept. Even if you can't get it for free they may be able to offer reduced rates or a payment schedule.

Other couples in my class paid $60.

Whomever said the state makes you take it couldn't be more wrong!!!! Why would they insist you spend more of their money. They couldn't care less if you are prepared for labor and delivery.Did you have to pay for chilbirth/parenting classes?
There might be an organization like Planned Parenthood in your area that offers them for free or for a small fee. If they dont offer a class they might know of someone who does. Its worth a call. Good luck
My labor/delivery class is $75 for my husband and I to attend. It's a 4 week course.

My mother and law and I are both going to the Infant CPR class, that's $25 for each of us and the class is one morning.

And we signed my step daughter up for the big sibling class, that's $15 for two hours.

Then there's the breastfeeding class that was who knows how much that we opted not to do. And the taking baby home class. And the. . .
Most local hospitals offer them at a decent rate. I signed my hubby and I up for ours for $25 a couple. It is a full childbirth class.
Check with your local public hospital, they usually run prenatal classes on a regular basis for free or a minimal charge! And Congrats!
We have to pay for ours too. I get a discount by proving that my insurance ';prefers'; the hospital that I am taking the class at, but it is still $70 per couple for the ';Weekender'; class. Sorry. I don't know of anywhere who does it for free. The classes at the hospital are free if you have Medicaid though.
Heck yes...most local hospitals offer them for free or at a much more nominal cost. Mine were free and a neighboring hospital only charged $15.
Usually the hospital you are scheduled to deliver at offers them for free. I would call them and check with them first.
since when did they make it mandatory to do that?!!!if your on some sort of state assistance they make you do it.but in that case its free.is it something you signed up for because its your 1st kid?well call the state to see if they will pay for it.
I paid I think $60.00 but that was 9 yrs ago. I think they always charge because they have to pay the instructor etc.
no if you go to social serv you dont have to pay
I don't think they offer them for free. Did you try the hospital? the one i am going to the classes are $60. But since i am on medicaid, they are free.
My hospital had classes it cost 85 per couple it was a 6 week course, along with a 3 hour newborn basics class.. but with my insurance it was free.
The hospital I had planned on delivering it at, sent me a letter saying it was free if I delivered at that hospital. But don't expect a whole lot when the time actually comes you tend to forget what you learned in the classes nothing prepares you for the real thing.
There may be a support group or a doula's group that might help.

Childbirth classes were a total waste of time and money for us.
Mine were $300 for a 6 week crash course.
