Is bad parenting to blame for Britains weapon culture?

I think it is, parents seem to be having kids and forgetting to bring them up. What are your opinions? Is bad parenting to blame for Britains weapon culture?
Bad parenting isn't the only cause but HALLELUJAH for someone who isn't scared to tel it like it is!

Kids should be taught respect, behaviour, how to control themselves in public - how not to act like idiots.... and to stop going around with this crazy idea that they are all hard nosed gangsters.

It makes me sooo sad.

BUT RESPECT TO ALL THE REALLY GREAT TEENS OUT THERE....Is bad parenting to blame for Britains weapon culture?
Well there are two answers to this question. In some cases it is the parents fault - some people just don't deserve kids! On the other hand I know that some friends of mine have brought their kids up almost perfectly but for whatever reason they have strayed. When I was younger at school if you 'did wrong' you were punished with the cane and if a policeman caught you 'doing wrong' they gave you a thick ear! I soon learnt how far to push my parents, teachers etc but in this day and age you can not punish your kids because they threaten to ring child line etc which is a great shame because child line is an excellent escape for children who are being abused in whatever way. Good question mate and I hope that all the recent deaths are taken into account and that the government and us finally do something about this terrible situation this country is in.
no i disagree, you can have the best upbringing in the world, but when your kids gets to the teenage years they think they know it all, and that they are untouchable by the law, and basically all the respect they had for people and things go out of the window.

its also pressure as well, some kids like to show off by doing illegal and stupid things, to their friends, they think they get more respect of their mates..when they actually don't...

carrying knives around now is as common as having a bag of sweets on you, its an awful situation..
Respect is the key.

When these children learn to respect themselves they will in turn respect their parent and other authoritarian figures like teachers, police and other adults.

I was taught to respect my elders.

I was raised in a working class family, with two younger brothers, in Brixton, South London so the area you are raised in does not enter the equation.

It does, however, require your parents to set the examples that you should follow.
Watching the channel 4 series huh? Lol..

and no, I know parents who have tried their best to bring their kids up well, but their kids just go along with the crowd, and if you live in a dodgy area, they will tend to 'follow the crowd'..but yes some parents are to blame, as they dont give a sh!t, but to an extent its up to the kids as well..dont know if that makes much sense haha
Totally agree. Too much emphasis on civil liberties. Kids think they can do as they please and there will be no consequences. We dont smack our kids but they are punished if naughty. Some parents just appear to not be bothered what their kids are up too. Shouldnt be having them at all, even heard of people having kids to get a better council property. Makes you wonder where it started going wrong. I would say the parents of these parents
Parents are responsible for most of the 'yoof' problems in this great island nation.

Compulsory sterilisation for some could be the solution in the medium term, although the current crop of teenage underachieving, hostile, useless, thick, idiots should all be conscripted into the armed services.

They are all so 'hard' and clever on their little street corners, playing up to their friends......lets see how much bottle they REALLY have when posted to a war zone. They would crap their pants.

Not proud of this, but get a ringleader on their own for a little 'chat' and suddenly they're not so hard........done it a couple of times now for my gran.......it's all they understand....;o)
They parents are not always to be blamed. Teens easily get influenced by the wrong crowd to fit in. No matter how hard the parents try to bring them up as best as they could if the child does not respond to it then it's not the parents fault. It's all a matter of choice and direction in life.
No it could be part of it but the law in this country is an *** and as much as anything else this should shoulder a large part of this. Mandatory 5 years in prison for carrying, life for using..Keep the scum off the streets or better still put them up against a wall and shoot the b*stards
Absolutely agree with you, they have no control over their kids and allow them to do what the hell they want, they should be put in prison along with their brats for allowing them to carry knifes and commit crime.
that is true but also he government are alot more tougher!! it is against the law to smack your child!!! i love my parents but if i did something wrong i was scared! which is good! made me grow up to be me!

parents need more rights!
You are so right. Kids have lost, or never been taught the art of respect.
my opinion is brtain is a wonderful country.
