What is attachment parenting?

What exactly is it?What is attachment parenting?
The way that I understand is it that it enriches the bond between parent a child through things such as:

carrying an infant rather than using such things as play pens, strollers, bouncy seats, etc.

co-sleeping (newborn-young child sleeping with mom and dad)

I did both of the above with my second child. The idea is that a great deal of problems arise from separation anxiety that could easily be avoided by making the transition toward separation a slow and relaxed one. I find many of their ideas have merit. What is attachment parenting?
To me AP is about knowing your child. Understanding what their needs are and meeting them gently and lovingly. It's about teaching and guiding them.
