What are some useful principles about good parenting that you discovered only AFTER having children?

Please state the developmental age at which your principles apply and how you discovered them. Thanks! What are some useful principles about good parenting that you discovered only AFTER having children?
That each child, from birth, are individuals and their needs should be recognized with an open mind...Children rely on us to be the Parent, not there friend, not the brother or sister...but their voice of reason, lead by example, especially through-out their

pre-teen to teen years...there must be an authority figure that they understand there will be consequences to their bad as well as good behavior...and that Mom %26amp; Dad will be quick to correct as well as reward either. What are some useful principles about good parenting that you discovered only AFTER having children?
That all children are different
That you start with boundaries as soon as they can focus their eyes on you. It is absolutely amazing what their brains can absorb.

A good firm no will work until around age 6. Then you gotta be ready to get a little stricter.

The best deterrent I found for my teenagers misbehavior is to take away their privacy. Example. My teenage daughter let her grades drop below what was acceptable. I took her door off the hinges . Took one grading period for her grades to come back.

The most important thing is to remember they are only this age but once. Always consider if that extra load of clothes or one more business phone call is worth missing it.
man...if you're going to be this technical about having kids then you must be a boring parent! Just have fun!
dont spoil them when they are toddlers.
You can't save your children from every hurt they encounter (every age), you need to let them learn from their mistakes, not yours (7 and up), you always need to be there for them. Unfortunately, some self-centered parents never get the last one.
When you speak, mean it. When you ASK nd I do repeat ask anything of them, expect them to do it. In your heart and in your mind. Pick up the toys please. No doubt in your mind at all they will do it.
